What Are You Wearing Turquoise Edition: Turquoise Mountain
Share
How many of you know what type of turquoise your wearing? How many of you know the story behind where it comes from?? I love understanding what sets different types of turquoise, and other minerals, apart from one another and where they come from so I decided to start a little "blog" if you will about the different types of turquoise, specifically those we have available in our shop.
This week I chose Turquoise Mountain. Turquoise Mountain mine is in the Mineral Park Mining District of Mohave County, Arizona in the Cerbat Mountains just north of Kingman AZ. It is part of the Kingman mine but is considered a classic mine in its own right due to its unique coloring and patterns. Turquoise Mountain turquoise typically has a range of blue to green hues with a brown/golden matrix formed by iron and copper within the host rock and water webbing (light and dark turquoise webbing). This mine has had long periods of inactivity but has begun to be mined again recently. Thought the material looks different from what was being mined in the 1970's its still a very beautiful and sought after stone.
We have a bar necklace available on our website that has a beautiful deep blue rich color with a splash of green and faint water webbing. It is stunning in person and is perfect for layering with pearls.
